Sensory Friendly Places for Kids on The Autism Spectrum

As a parent with a child on the spectrum I know how hard it is to find places, and resources for our au-some kiddos! These will be Texas based, and in the area of San Antonio and surrounding. I hope to bring support and resources to parents so they can easily navigate and be pointed in a direction rather than stressing on where to go and where things are. Also want to

Let’s get into some resources for parents who are navigating school settings.

Get an advocate! I highly recommend the MAC center in San Antonio Texas. It is a Multi Assistance Center for children and adults with disabilities. It is a place you can go when you aren’t sure what to do or how to get the best resources for your child. I will link their website below so you can read and learn more about them! I have a navigator for my son who helps with getting therapy, and more! Highly recommend.

Getting an advocate will also help when navigating public school or school settings. It is extremely important we are proactive with preparing them for school and making sure the IEP and everything that goes along with special education is taken care of so our children can thrive and get the education they deserve and need!

Speaking on the MAC center, you should also check out Morgan’s Wonderland! The MAC center is also a part of Morgan’s Wonderland. A theme park designed for children and adults with disabilities to enjoy a place where they can also have fun and be included. My son and daughter love being there and the sensory garden is so cool! Join Facebook groups for parents with children on the autism spectrum! I have gained a lot of info from the Facebook groups. Many also like to get together for play dates. It’s nice having a community of other moms with children on the spectrum where you can laugh, cry and embrace our children’s successes! Check local groups in your area!

Fun sensory friendly places for kids! The Magik Theatre is a place I LOVED going to as a child. Their performances were so fun and engaging, and I remember those memories vividly. They also have sensory friendly performances just for kiddos on the autism spectrum and children who have sensory sensitivities. The link will be provided below for you to check out!

The DoSeum is a really fun museum for all kids. They have exclusive hours for sensory sensitive kiddos. Mention that your child is sensory sensitive, and you will get a sensory backpack kit that has a sensory map, fidget toys and more to help the experience be the best one for your child! Link to the DoSeum will be below so you can learn more!

Beyond Limits: Sensory Friendly Program

Just wanted to add that I am not affiliated with any of these places! I just wanted to share some good resources and places that my son and daughter both enjoy that is inclusive for my sensory sensitive son. These are my favorite places to go where both my children can feel included and have a great time. It is hard to find inclusion for our children on the spectrum as there are not many places that offer quiet areas for them to regulate so finding these places that offer that and more is awesome!
